Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to New York City in 1922 in search of a new life for herself. This high spirited musical will have everyone dancing the Charleston!

Students cast in this production study at CPA. Instruction is given in acting, voice, and musical theatre dance and tap. Students audition to be part of this 4 year Specialty Center housed at the Burton Center for Arts and Technology, where they take daily classes that emphasize proper technique and necessary skills at the appropriate age and ability level.

Students from these classes audition for the musical and rehearse during class time. Professional sets, lighting, and costumes enhance the student productions that are performed in the Jefferson Center’s Shaftman Hall. The show features CPA student Leah Wedge in the title role. Featured performers include Tony d’Alelio, Corinne Davis, Tyler Haynie, Shannon Poffenberger, and Katie Holland. There are 41 students in all, ages 14-18, who will perform in this production. Twenty-nine of these students just returned from New York City where they performed 20 minutes of the production at the National Performing Arts Festival, garnering a trophy in Excellence and 3 medals for Wedge, d’Alelio, and Poffenberger based on their performance work in Millie.

Directing is Carol Webster, director of CPA. Musical direction is by faculty member Terry Haynie, and choreography is by guest artist Trey Mitchell. Ms. Elyse Hart assists Mr. Mitchell, with additional choreography provided by Katie Holland.
