Janiah Hand Project Latin rhythms and percussion The drum is the oldest musical instrument known to mankind. All human cultures have a deep connection to the repetitive patterns we call rhythms. “Evolution of Rhythm” focuses on the evolution of drums and rhythms in the Americas. Covering ground from southern Argentina all the way to Canada, this ensemble delivers an explosive and fast-paced presentation, playing an array of musical styles, both modern and ancient. Students will be entertained and expand their knowledge of many instruments, including the drumset, congas, timbales, shekeres, bells, cuica, and bombo. Modern instruments are also incorporated, such as keys, bass, electric guitar, synthesizers, and buckets. Students are encouraged to play, sing, & dance along throughout the entire presentation. Janiah Hand Project is led by drummer/educator Janiah Hand Allen. Janiah was raised in Ecuador where he studied at the National Music Academy. Since his return to the United States he has worked in many schools throughout the Eastern USA, teaching workshops, and performing full percussion presentations. His knowledgeable and engaging presentational style is appreciated by students and educators alike. ADDRESSES THE FOLLOWING VIRGINIA STANDARDS OF LEARNING:
