Shakey Graves (with Carson McHone)

Shakey Graves, one of the most intriguing roots music artists to come down the pike in quite a while, is headed for Roanoke.

The road will bring Graves to Jefferson Center on June 9. Tickets are general admission and $20 a pop...

Graves, a Texan born Alejandro Rose-Garcia, is a solo act who finger picks guitar, stomps out drums sounds with both feet on an old suitcase while delivering high-quality lyrics and often dark lyrics with a gravelly but rangy vocal style. It's an act to see as well as hear, and we have embedded video of Graves' "Word Of Mouth" here (cell phone users hit the "related" link).

It's not a gimmick, though. The music stands on its own without the naturalistic visuals.

Graves is touring behind his second CD, "And The War Came."

Joining him for the night is Carson McHone, a singer-songwriter who was selected to be one of the songwriters of Project #ATX6 in 2014. In June of that year, the group played a showcase in Toronto, Canada at NXNE (North by Northeast Festival) and in September 2014 toured Northern Germany and played a showcase at Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg.
